How to Reply to YouTube Comments (and Keep Up With All of Them)

Replying is the simplest thing you can do with a comment and the one most channels skip: in our study of 15,403 channels, the median channel replied to 1.1% of its comments. This guide covers every way to reply on your own channel, from the watch page to YouTube Studio to a video reply, with the exact steps YouTube documents as of October 2026. The second half is about keeping up once comments arrive faster than you can type.

Short answer. On a computer, click REPLY under the comment, type your reply and click REPLY. In the YouTube app, open the comments, tap Reply, type and tap Send. To see every comment on your channel in one place, use YouTube Studio: select Community, then reply from the Published tab and filter by response status. There is no reply-to-all button, so busy channels add templates or automation.

Reply on a computer

• 1. Open your video and scroll to the comments.
• 2. Click REPLY beneath the comment.
• 3. Type your reply and click REPLY.

Your reply is threaded under the original comment. You can edit or delete your own comments from the More menu at the top right of the comment. Steps from Post & interact with comments.

Reply in the YouTube app

• 1. Open the video and tap the comments preview to see all comments.
• 2. Under the comment, tap Reply.
• 3. Type your reply and tap Send.

The app is fine for a quick answer on one video. It is slow for working through a whole channel, because you have to open each video in turn. Source: Post & interact with comments (app).

Reply from YouTube Studio (every video in one list)

Studio is where creators should reply, because it lists comments from every video together and lets you filter them. Per Review & reply to comments:

• 1. Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Community in the left menu.
• 2. Stay on the Published tab (the Held tab has comments waiting for approval; see comments held for review).
• 3. Use the filter bar to narrow by search, questions or response status, so you see only the comments you have not answered yet.
• 4. Select REPLY under a comment, type and send. Select the heart to show appreciation without writing anything.

In the YouTube Studio app, tap Community in the bottom menu; the response-status filter offers Unresponded, Responded and New replies to your response, and you can select more than one. Reply with a Short

You can answer a comment on your channel with a Short instead of text, which works well for a question that deserves a demonstration. In the YouTube app, go to the video, tap Reply under the comment, then tap the Shorts icon. The Shorts camera opens with the comment shown as a sticker. Like a text reply, it lets the commenter know, and the Short appears under the original comment (Reply to comments with your YouTube Shorts).

Use reply suggestions and heart suggestions

• Reply suggestions: in Studio's Community page, suggested replies appear below some comments. Select one, edit it and click Reply. Standard suggestions are based on common creator replies; upgraded ones use AI to match your tone from your recent replies, in any language YouTube comments support. Nothing posts until you click (Use comment reply suggestions).
• Heart suggestions: in the YouTube Studio app, tap Community, then Comments to ❤️, and heart a batch of comments YouTube reads as positive in one go. Only available in the Studio mobile app (Use suggested comments to heart).

When you can't reply

If the reply box is missing, check the obvious first: comments may be turned off on that video, limited to subscribers or members, or the video may be private (private videos have no comments). YouTube can also pause someone's commenting for up to 24 hours after repeated comments that may break its Community Guidelines. All four are listed in Post & interact with comments.

How to keep up with all of them

YouTube documents replying as one comment at a time, everywhere, and there is no reply-to-all button. Keeping up is a workflow, not a feature:

• Front-load the first two days. For the median channel in our comment report, 68.1% of comments arrived within 48 hours of upload. A reply pass on day one and day two covers most of them.
• Questions first. Filter to questions and Unresponded. A thank-you can be a heart; a question deserves words.
• Write the repeat answers once. Keep short templates for the questions you get on every video and adjust each one a little. Our reply templates are a starting set.

Past a few hundred comments a week, the repeat questions are where the hours go, and they are what automation is for.
